The Illustrated Krazy
Chapter 13 - Kat Descending a Staircase
This gallery includes spoofs by Frederick Opper and Tad Dorgan of the Cubist works at the 1913 Armory Show, as well as pages of the Los Angeles Evening Journal that featured a variety of cartoonists creating vertical strips in the space that will soon be occupied by Krazy Kat. Herriman’s growing celebrity can be seen in a Los Angeles Herald Tribune article that welcomed him back home, a Dan Leno homage to Herriman, and in affectionate mentions in his friend Beanie Walker’s column. It was also at this time that Herriman lost his mother, Clara Herriman, whose grave can be seen at the Calvary Cemetery in Los Angeles.
