George Herriman’s first home away from his family is enumerated in the 1900 census. A decade later, Herriman would pay homage to his old landlord Jacob Jones in a Krazy Kat comic. Also seen here are Herriman’s first cartoons for the New York Evening Journal, which he drew when he was twenty years old. Dating from the first months of 1901, most have never been re-published.
