This gallery has early examples of Herriman’s two moderately successful early strips — The Two Jolly Jackies and Major Ozone — along with the lesser-known Mrs. Waittaminit and Home, Sweet Home. It also features his first grand sports cartoon, which shows boxer “Sailor” Tom Sharkey dreaming he is a Roman warrior. Herriman’s collaborations with Roy McCardell for the World and Walter Murphy for the Daily News are also featured here, as is a cartoon in which the 23-year-old Herriman tweaks the esteemed cartoonist Homer Davenport.
