Herriman’s 1922 trip to Arizona is covered in the Coconino Sun newspaper. On that trip, he celebrated his 42nd birthday with John and Louisa Wetherill, later recalling the event to Louise Scher Swinnerton, who had been there with her then-husband Jimmy Swinnerton. Also included is a photo of Herriman with John and Louisa Wetherill and their adopted daughter Fannie. The memories of Fannie’s sister, Betty Rodgers (seen in a photograph by Michael Tisserand), would offer an invaluable look at Herriman’s time in Arizona. Her stories helped bring the Arizona tales in Krazy to life.
